New York City Festivals For Peace

  

Peter Yarrow organized these two events, with the artists donating their fees and all net proceeds going to the Vietnam Moratorium effort. Two events were held: January at Madison Square Garden and August at Shea Stadium. Both events are listed here.
 


Winter Festival For Peace
Madison Square Garden
The show at MSG was not a good one for Jimi. Bickering with his manager about dumping his Band Of Gypsys and re-forming The Experience and then somebody put something in his drink. He lasted only two songs before wandering off stage. Read more about it here .

Summer Festival For Peace
Shea Stadium
The Summer Festival date was picked as it was the 25th anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped in Hiroshima. It was also one of Janis Joplin's last concert appearances. Reports have it that Ms Joplin and Ms Warwick duetted on What The World Needs Now—unfortunately no film exsists of this, or any other performance.
